What is the Delmarva Power Energize Education School Program?

The Delmarva Power Energize Education School Program was developed to teach 5th grade students easy ways to use energy more efficiently while increasing the energy savings in their homes. Program content supports Maryland State learning standards so you can easily integrate the program into your existing curriculum.

What is included in the Delmarva Power Energize Education Program?

The Delmarva Power Energize Education Program comes with a teacher book filled with lesson plans and engaging activities that you can use inside and outside of the classroom. Each student, and teacher, will receive an individual Student Guide, Student Workbook, and an Energize Education Kit. The kit includes energy-efficient products that will help students implement classroom lessons at home. Kit items include:

  • Two 9-watt LEDs
  • High-efficiency showerhead
  • Kitchen faucet aerator
  • Bathroom faucet aerator
  • Digital thermometer
  • Installation instructions
  • Much more!

What are the participation requirements for the program?

All we ask in return for your participation in the Delmarva Power Energize Education Program is that your students complete a short survey. The student survey contains a pre- and post-program quiz. Survey responses help gauge the knowledge gained by each student during the program. If your students take a pledge to be energy efficient and return their student surveys, each student will receive a Delmarva Power certificate of achievement! A self-addressed postage-paid return envelope is provided in your teacher materials to make the return of these surveys even easier for you.

Is there an enrollment deadline for the program?

There are a limited number of kits available for each school year. If you are a 5th grade school teacher and have already been contacted about participating in the program, you can enroll now here!

Is there a maximum number of kits available for each enrolled class?

When you enroll in the Delmarva Power Energize Education Program, one kit will be provided for each student enrolled in your class with no maximum number of kits for each class. However, there are a limited number of kits available for each school year. When this maximum number of kits has been reached, no more classrooms will be able to participate in the program until the following school year.

If I enroll in the program, how will my school benefit?

When you enroll in the Energize Education Program, your school will get to work with Delmarva Power in an exclusive program that can help make an impact on your immediate community. In addition to teaching lessons that will promote lifelong efficient use of energy by your students and their households, each participating teacher will receive a gift card in the amount of $50 for their classroom when 80 percent of their student surveys are completed and returned by May 30th.

What do I do if an LED Lightbulb from my kit breaks?

LED lightbulbs do not contain hazardous materials, and therefore can safely be disposed of the same way you would dispose a broken glass. However, 95 percent of an LED lightbulb is recyclable, so recycling your LED lightbulbs is the best way to dispose of them. Simply call your local government or waste management company to learn the recycling policy in your area.
